Collateral Loans: Title Loans

Posted by Jason Foster in Finance Online

If you want to use a vehicle that you own free and clear to obtain a loan, there are some risks involved regarding collateral loans that you should consider carefully before you decide to use this type of financing.

Collateral Loans

Title loans are an example of a collateral loan. Below are some of the different names that refer to a title loan:

  • Car or auto title loan
  • Cash title loan
  • Loan for title program

All of these are the same type of loan, one for which you pledge your car or other auto that you own free and clear to secure a collateralized loan. The rate that you pay is almost always much higher than that of a standard loan, because the term of repayment is usually around 30 days and there is no credit investigation involved.

Be very careful before you use a collateral loan for your monetary needs. Understand the repayment terms and make sure you do not fail to pay on time, or your collateral will be lost.

Michael Vick In Nike Endorsement Deal

Posted by Jason Foster in Finance Online

Michael Vick, the star National Football League quarterback whose career was sidelined by a dog fighting conviction, has reached an endorsement agreement with athletic equipment maker Nike.

“We have re-signed Michael Vick as a Nike athlete,” said Megan Saalfeld, a Nike spokeswoman, in an e-mail to CNN.

Vick, currently on the roster of the Philadelphia Eagles, served 20 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dog fighting operation.

The conviction cost him a $2 million endorsement deal with Nike and a 10-year, $130 million contact with the Atlanta Falcons.

He has since emerged as a spokesman against dog fighting.

“Michael acknowledges his past mistakes,” Saalfeld said. “We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field.”

For his part, Vick said in a statement that he is “thrilled” to be back with Nike.

“I am thrilled to be on the Nike roster. Read more…

Asian Stocks Mostly Lower On Growth Worries

Posted by Aaron Cruz in Finance Online

– Asian stocks swung between gains and losses before closing mostly lower Monday, after data showing weak housing sales and lower than estimated consumer spending in the U.S. sparked concerns about slowing growth in the world’s largest economy.

Persistent worries about Greece’s debt woes, a decline in oil and copper prices amid a slightly stronger dollar and a slew of economic data scheduled to be released this week, including a closely-watch jobs report on Friday, also prompted investors to stay on the sidelines. Oil prices slipped below $100 a barrel in late Singapore trading ahead of the U.S. Memorial Day holiday.

Tokyo shares fell, dragged down by exporters as investors continued to fret over the impact of a stronger yen on the economy and corporate profits. Sentiment was also hit by politics after opposition parties threatened a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Naota Kan following his handling of the response to the March 11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster.

Psion shares drop 16pc after first-half loss warning on currency and supply issues

Posted by Jason Foster in Finance Online

The British company, which began making smartphones around 20 years before they became fashionable and now produces rugged computers for the likes of Volkswagen and BMW, said revenues for the six months to June were 4pc down on the same period last year. It downgraded its forecasts for full-year revenue growth from 10pc to between 5pc and 8pc.

“The impact of these factors together with the development and launch expenses for the new EP10 product [its new enterprise PDA device] will result in Psion reporting a loss in the half of about £4m, compared with a profit of £700,000 a year ago,” Psion said in a statement.

However, Psion said the disappointing performance in the first half would be mitigated in the second by a strong order book. It said orders of its computers were 16pc ahead of last year on a constant currency basis and that the supply chain issues, which affected one touch-screen product, had now been resolved.

How do you fight zombie debt?

Posted by Jason Foster in Finance Online

The best way to fight zombie debt is to ensure the collections agent or lender has a right to collect. By definition, zombie debt has been “dead” for a long time, maybe even years. This could render the original financing agreement or bills no longer valid. If you are contacted by an agent or lender regarding debt that is more than 12 months old, start by writing a request for the lender to verify its right to collect. If the debt is verified, repay it immediately, but ask the lender to remove negative information from your credit report. This can at least save your credit, even if you end up having to pay the bill.
